Join us on Saturday December 3rd from 1pm-4pm for an artist signing with world reknown primitive folk artist Billy Jacobs! Our special during the signing will be 10% off all Billy Jacobs framed prints!

Long-time Ohio resident Billy Jacobs is a self-trained folk-artist whose career has spanned nearly 30 years. Billy’s work originated in wood-craft and small decorative folk art and has evolved over the years to include his now famous collection of primitive American landscapes. First published in 2007, Billy’s collection of primitive American landscapes have made him one of the country’s most recognized folk-artists. Each of Billy’s prints portray a sense of tranquility and peacefulness that reflect the authentic nature of the scenes that have inspired Billy’s creations. Most of the landscapes featured by Billy are of actual places throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Customers who stop by and bring in their prints or purchase one of the many that we will have available can have them personally signed by Billy.

Ahhhhh....Valentine's Day is just around the corner and love is in the air....but be warned! Valinda Von Vixen is on the prowl and I believe she is looking for yet, another gullible sweetheart!

Village rumor has it that her mystical love spells are potent and that she collects sweethearts the way you or I might collect buttons or bits of thread. It's also said that, once her innocent, would-be suitor gazes upon her face....they are forever ensnared in her web of enchantment.

Mesmerized and unable to escape, she then weaves a magical spell, which turns her poor darling into.....(believe it or not).....a toad. Now I'm not sure if I believe all of that tall tale.....but I must say......I have noticed a vast amount of toads in and around Valinda's cottage lately!

Well, we all know the Devil wears Prada.....but who knew he wore polka dots and carried a relish fork too!

Johnny says "the taste of love is sweet".......so maybe he's talking about sweet gherkins. That would explain the relish fork.

They all know, it's nothing but cheek pinches and sticky, fuzz covered cough drops (pulled from the depths of her old, musty purse) for them!

Yesterday was a fun filled day at my shoppe...Village Gift Shoppe! We had a guest artist in for a signing! Artist Billy Jacobs is an Ohio artist who is very well known around the country for his down to earth folk art paintings.

Here's a pic of my shoppe co-owner Hope and I with Billy...

We had him in last year too and our customers were so happy to have the chance to get to meet him in person and have him sign their prints.

We also had copies of his new book available for purchase and he signed those also...

Little did people know.....that sitting beside Billy was another very well known artist....Laurie Meseroll of Mudcakes! Laurie drove up from Columbus, OH to visit! Thank you Laurie for making the trip on a chilly winter day! It was so nice getting to talk with you and share some giggles!

We still have several of Billy's winter prints available. They make the best Christmas gifts!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..........baby it's COLD outside! This has been one of the worst winters since we opened our doors some 10 years ago. So here are some pics for you to enjoy of our winter wonderland.

Billy Jacobs Artist Signing......

Was a success and so much fun! It's the first time that we have ever done an artist signing....but it definitely won't be the last! Our customers and collector's of Billy's artwork enjoyed getting to meet and talk with him while he was there. His artwork is so down home and I think that everyone can relate to it. His paintings of old weathered farms and barns bring with them that feeling of days gone by. If you aren't familiar with his work....then CLICK HERE to go see some of his prints.

Twin City Hospital Wreaths & More Extravaganza

This year is our first year for participating in this benefit for our local Twin City Hospital. Nathan Paternoster made the two wreaths that we donated to this worthy cause. Hope and I went up tonight to view all the gorgeous wreaths and more that were on display at the Trainmaster Inn in Dennison, OH. Below are the pictures of our two wreaths that we donated. DENNISON, OH —

Twin City Hospital Employee Auxiliary will host its 10th annual Wreaths and More Extravaganza beginning Sunday. This year’s event will again be held in the Trainmaster Inn at 408 Grant St., Dennison.

Donated wreaths and various holiday decorations will be on display Sunday from noon to 8 and Monday through Nov. 21 from 11 to 1 p.m. and 4 to 8. Adult admission is $2, which provides unlimited entry to the event. Children are admitted free. Cookies and punch will be served.

Those wishing to purchase a wreath or decoration may do so by placing silent bids throughout the event.

The past several years of the event have featured several unique and original pieces such as an Ohio State University themed wreath, a wine lovers themed wreath with a gift certificate to an area winery, and other sport and collector’s themed decorations.

There also have been beautiful centerpieces with greenery, pine and hurricane candles.
Those attending also will have the opportunity to tour the first floor of the Trainmaster Inn.

“The Trainmaster Inn is the perfect showcase for our fundraiser,” said Tiffany Poland, chairman for the event and an Employee Auxiliary member. “The bed and breakfast is fully decorated for the Christmas season and is truly a sight to see. It is well worth the $2 admission to see the inn, not to mention the added bonus of our event.”

“We are excited to house the Twin City Hospital Employee Auxiliary Wreaths and More Extravaganza at the Trainmaster Inn again this year,” said Greg DiDonato, owner of the Trainmaster Inn and a Twin City Hospital board member. “This is a great fundraiser for the employee auxiliary, and all of the money benefits the hospital.”

'Tis the Season everyone......and I'd like to wish all of you Happy Holiday Havoc and Merry Mayhem!

This year, I think the 'Big Jolly Old Elf" is going to have his hands full around the work shoppe! We all know what a great job the elves do every season in fulfilling the requests of all of the 'good little boys and girls' around the world......but it seems as though all is not "sugar plums and figgy pudding" among the ranks in Elfdom. It seems there a few ornery troublemakers in the lot......so in order to keep an eye on those that have potential to create mischief, the "Big Guy" has made the offending few wear a bit of black on their elf uniforms. LOL! I guess it makes it easier to pick them out in the vast wee crowds.

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas here at Village Gift Shoppe! The tahoe trees are lit with twinkling lights and all the Christmas trimmings have been placed throughout the shoppe to create the most peaceful holiday atmosphere.

We hope you will all join us on the dates above to celebrate our 10 year Anniversary here at Village Gift Shoppe. It's hard to believe that it was 10 years ago on November 9, 1999 that we opened our door. Much has happened along the way & many consignment crafters have come and gone throughout the years. A few have passed on and we miss them dearly.

We've given the shoppe a new look and feel and we hope you will stop by to say hello, sign up for door prizes and have some punch, coffee and cookies. We'll also be letting all of our guests sign up for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to help celebrate this special anniversary. The drawing will be held on Monday Nov. 9th.

New Makeover at VGS!

Well, we are coming up on our 10 year anniversary here at Village Gift Shoppe and wanted to do a major makeover here at the shoppe. So we asked one of our neighbors that live in the apartment over the shoppe to help us rearrange and decorate the inside to celebrate the special occasion.

Here are some pics of all the redecorating that Ian did for us. He's very handy with the power tools and not afraid to do and create! We want to thank him for all that he did those 2 full days in here!

We used all the old doors, shutters, windows and all the things that we had stored out back for years and only used when we did shows.

We hope you enjoyed looking at all the pictures and that you stop by to see us during our Christmas Open House/10 Year Anniversary on Saturday November 7th from 10-6 and Sunday Nov. 8th from 12-5pm!

This weekend at Dover High School's Band Booster's Craft Show! We hope you will stop by our booth to see the wide variety of crafts that we have to offer. Our booth will contain lots of Halloween and fall handcrafted items made by our consignment artists. We have everything from hand poured candles to furniture pieces made from old doors and windows. Our popular hand stitched samplers are always a hit! We have tons of primitive items such as dolls, hand stitched felt cats, pumpkins, witches boots & hats. Joycee and the whole ADQ gang of dolls (plus some new ones) and the James Short doll came down to the shoppe for a photo shoot last Friday. Our local newspaper is going to do a featured article on her and it should be making the paper sometime this coming week......hopefully tomorrow or Monday!

SO.....we set up the photo shoot on our upstairs neighbors porch since the lighting is so much better outside the shoppe. Above and below are the pics Joycee and her Enchanted Production doll creations, 4 of which appeared in the current fall issue of Art Doll Quarterly magazine.

And here is a picture of Joyce with her very special doll that she made as a gift for her cousin and her husband after they lost their only son James in a recent motorcycle/car accident the end of August. This is the James Short doll that was made in his likeness, complete with tatoos and his rollerblades. James was a professional skater and musician and he was only 24 years old but he really lived life to the fullest in his short time here on earth.

May he Rest in Peace...........

This has to be my favorite photo shoot ever! As many of you know, and some may not, I take the pics for Joyce's dolls that we list on eBay under my shoppe ID Villagegiftshoppe. Joyce makes the dolls and writes up the descriptions.....and I take their pics and list her auctions and add the music to go along with her dolls. Mortimer has a very special song to go along with his auction that Joyce found. It's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life by Monty Python and it fits Mortimer perfectly as he is known as The Whistling Mortician.....*giggle*

Well, this past weekend we took her latest doll, Mortimer the Mortician, to the 4th St. cemetery in New Philadelphia, OH for a photo shoot. What better backdrops for a man of his profession?

We found this amazing monument with THE MOST gorgeous wreath of calla lilies and the hand in the center with the finger pointing up towards the heavens! Only problem was, Joyce is short and this monument was not.....LOL So she was stretched up on her tippy toes and doing her best impression of the Statue of Liberty so that I could get Mortimer and the wreath in the same shot! (Way to stretch JoycEE!)

This is one of the doors that was on one of the tiny mausoleums. It had a rusty grate covering the entrance but the door was open and you could see inside. It was so sad that the little windows had been boarded up where there were probably once little stained glass windows. I still don't understand how someone can vandalize a cemetery or gravestones? *sigh*

This little plot was surrounded by the most awesome rusty wrought iron fencing! The perfect backdrop for little Mortimer!

And here he is in front of the little house that we imagine the groundskeeper to this cemetery once lived in. We could see in the windows to the two small downstairs rooms where one had a fireplace.

It even had a steeple! We just loved the vintage architecture!

And this was the first stone that we happened to see as the perfect place to take Mortimer's first picture! And the way the shadows were cast in the background was perfect!

And for this amazing pic, we would like to thank our friend Sandy for doing her magic! We sent her this picture of the most amazing victorian hearse which ws taken by Spike Bakker and she inserted Mortimer into the pic. We were hoping to get his pic taken with one owned by a local funeral home but the funeral director "got busy" this weekend and we were unable to do it. SO......it ws Sam to the rescue!!! Thank you so much......you're THE BEST!!

I want to congratulate my best friend Joyce Stahl of Enchanted Productions on her article in the current issue of Art Doll Quarterly! Joyce submitted 4 dolls for the fall 2009 issue and they used all 4 of her dolls!!

As you all may well know, I list Joyce's dolls for her on eBay. She creates, I take their pics, she writes their auction descriptions and I set up their auctions and add the music that goes with them.

It was 3 years ago that Joyce walked into our shoppe with her dolls and their was one that as soon as I saw it, I said, "Joyce, this doll needs to go on eBay......." and the rest is history! =D

Now she can finally say that she's published......and in what is known as "The Most Elite" of all the Doll Magazines out there! It's been a long road Joycee, but well worth every mile! I'm so proud of you and happy for you!!

Below is the photo shoot of her 4 dolls that we took at the shoppe the day before they were all shipped off to California. We were even able to keep track of their journey across the states, thanks to the USPS online Track and Confirm feature!

Everytime that JoycEE brings me her newest doll to take pics and list on eBay, we always have to get Jadyn's reaction to that particular dollie. It's so funny to watch and see what kind of reaction she will have and the sign that a doll is going to be a good one, is when she gives it a kiss! We know it's a winner then! Of course Jadyn has grown up with Joyce's dolls but every now and then.........there are a few that she refuses to go near......LOL Those ones have gotten the, "Noooooooooo" response or the "Scary!" I wish now that I had written all her responses down. Us Nana's are known to be a little forgetful sometimes! hahaha!

But this newest one of Joyce's she absolutely loved! So Nana had to get the camera out and take a pic of her hugging Joyce's little shining star doll. I found the perfect "slightly creepy" version of the "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" song to use with this auction also! It's time for the County Coven's Annual Haunted Moonlight Sweetheart Dance and our dear, sweet Hexekiah Mortilicious has been working on her love spell for weeks now! She's had her sights (and crystal ball) set on that dashing and debonair warlock, Mr. Sterling Fletcher, for quite some time. You could say he's kind of like the James Bond of the witch world. Anyway.....one of the other young hags caught his eye at the dance last year.......leaving our poor Hexie broken hearted and alone! But alas.......that love affair was not meant to be......and our handsome Mr. Fletcher is back out on the prowl again! And this year Hexie is ready! Just look at that smile on her face........looks like she's got something up her sleeve............or should I say sleeves! giggle*giggle

They do have a tendency to get into a wee bit of trouble too.....if you don't keep an eye on them.......but they're basically a good group! And if they do get out of hand......all you have to do is let them see you start to preheat the oven! They straighten up pretty quick then!!!!! LOL!

I'd like you to meet Sidney, the Snowball! Sidney, and his other snowball friends (Believe me....they're quite a crew and you'll get meet them all in the upcoming days) have been hanging out with Joyce at the Enchanted Productions studio. They can be quite a rambunctious and boisterous little group.......especially when they're bored......so she's been trying to keep them entertained with board games, but even she can only play Mystery Date just so many times! Anyway.......today a magical hush fell over the studio and you could've heard a pin drop. You see......it started to snow today and that's what they've all been waiting for! She wishes you could've seen them! All lined up together, side by side, with their little faces pressed up against the window! It was just precious! The silence was pretty delightful too......for a change!

The Only Thing Missing..............

...........was the snow! We had a great Christmas Open House last weekend but the only thing missing was the snow! LOL And we got that yesterday.....just a week late! But it's probably for the best because the roads were getting pretty nasty.

Thank you Nathan for helping us put up the greenery, bows, lights and grapevine the night before the open house! We were out there until 9:00pm and the air was quite chilly! It's the prettiest that our shoppe front has ever looked!

I don't think that I've shown a picture of our newest Village Gift Shoppe Sign. This is our 3rd one since we opened 9 years ago. The weather sure does take a toll on them!

We hope this one lasts for many years to come! Thank You to John Metzger and the Indian Valley High School Industrial Arts/Woodworking class for doing such a great job! Hope and I painted and stained it this past spring and her hubby and her got it hung while I was in California. The last time that the PFATTies were in Ohio and got to come visit, our poor sign was in sad shape. The banner that my friend Sam made us features our old sign, but she used her photo editing skills and made it look so pretty! I remember her telling me that we needed a new sign after she took that picture! lol
